A Crazy Thought. But what if Snyder is actually making 2 films, and Batman vs Superman comes earlier than 2016?
This here, The C3PED Crusader, is a response from J.J Abrams. Obviously (and the most logical thing to think of) they are simply having fun with it all sending mash-ups back and forth to create more talk and hype for both films. But, humouring ourselves with the assumption that there is more to it is always a healthy thing. It keeps our imaginations ticking ;)
I would however, to be honest, have expected the J.J response to be something more like this, but anyway...
BATMAN and R2BIN |
I know Snyder is teasing or simply trolling us for probably no reason at all with these Star Wars cross Batman/Superman photos... But here is a thought to humour our imaginations. What if they are actually shooting 2 films instead of one and are going through this Justice League cross Batman vs Superman mix-up phase (meaning that Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice is a codename for both films) to surprise us and the SW mash-ups are their way of hinting it?
Yeah ok, nobody is that nice and the chances are aligned with the most logical thing. That being Zack is at it and having some fun with his creativity. I mean why not? We do some funny stuff ourselves or think of doing them, why are directors any different?
Now, on an imaginary note with assuming it means more, we could say it is a hint at 2 films being made for DC comics, which is kind of like a free gift to humanity. DC being behind compared to Marvel on the big screen means that a surprise of the sort could make for much higher box office numbers with people rushing in to see the 2 films as opposed to 1 and bump DC more into the picture.

Snyder at the scene of the "crime".... |
Let us entertain ourselves with this thought a little and see how it would play out and why. The probability of it being true is very slim but having fun with it is free so why not? We could say that the following is the well thought process of a mastermind to create an even bigger hype on the films-
1) Create hype over the film by showing people a teaser (Batman/Superman logo) just a short while after Man of Steel hits theatres with the added quote from The Dark Knight Returns of what Batman said to Superman after defeating him (or something like that). That alone is enough to create so much hype for comic-lovers all around. Not only we get a superhero VS live action title which has never been done before on the big screen (I think) but we also get the original Frank Miller version? Zack having translated both 300 graphic novels from Frank Miller to the big screen with pure loyalty and respect to the material given makes it very possible that this indeed the story they are bringing to us.
2) Create controversy with actors cast for the roles, with Ben Affleck being Batman. Something that got the Internet in a mess real fast talking about this new film with a lot of doubt.
3) Show a little pic of this new Batman to get people thinking twice, which worked. Everyone said they could imagine Affleck as an aged Bruce Wayne doing a good job, but in the cape? Well, the images proved otherwise so far.
4) Introduce more characters to the story and start having people again in a fuss, albeit a smaller fuss, about the film wondering if you even know what you are doing. Resulting in something that seemingly changes the film from a Batman vs Superman picture to a Dawn of the Justice League picture.
5) Get people super-hyped with more released footage (small teaser, a couple more shots including Wonder Woman) over the film and what it might actually add up to become, then slap a date on it that has us waiting for almost another 2 years!!! A period that seems way too long for one film does it not? At the same time change the title to reveal the official name of the film calling it Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. By this point it is clear the story is not The Dark Knight Returns alone.
6) Start teasing with SW shots, and in the process get a lot of different fans talking about your film from a wider range of audiences. So many people and such a large fan base from Star Wars are all over the hype and news of Episode 7 being made it is probably one of the most anticipated films in the history of filming. They even have counters with days (like they did with the previous films, the prequels) and the talk and news are really on a daily basis now.
If nothing else, Zack is using that hype to bring talk over to the DC franchise as well.
However, he could be also using this as a "hint" that the film is actually coming out earlier, cross referencing this with the earlier release dates that of Star Wars Episode 7.

7) Follow the above and in the right timing, by which point there has been so much speculation, so much talk, and so much hype as well as desperation from having to wait for so long, you reveal some months ahead before SW E-VII that you are releasing two films, the first being around 8 months earlier, called The Dark Knight Returns or simply Batman vs Superman, which features that story, setting up for the Dawn of Justice films after that, the first being Dawn of Justice some 8 months later and on the release date already given to us. (Talk about an early Christmas present right?)
At which point, everyone will simply want to watch the film, and lets not mention a bunch of fears that many fans have/had will be taken care of and the two films will ultimately justify the complaint/worry of too many heroes being crammed in this one Batman vs Superman film.
Yes yes I know it is wishful thinking, but if Snyder is going to troll us with arbitrary shots, then we might as well have fun with it all and come up with some exaggerated speculations ourselves.
This was the first Zack Snyder tease/troll shot, with Kal El portraying a Super-Jedi (actually Sith, but anyway) |
In the end it simply seems like a great way to create more talk and hype whilst having fun with it along the way. The amount of buzz both franchises have is beyond most if not all other anticipated films out there, and not even Avengers 2 comes close to the amount of talk being made for the new DC film. This could work both ways and J.J Abrams could use this too to bring even more hype over to Star Wars (like the franchise even needed it) and what better way to out-hype your "opposition" other than joining them and bringing the two hypes together?
And it seems indeed that is what J.J might be doing after all when a new shot popped up as a response from Abrams, also depicting a DC cross SW mash-up.

This actually looks pretty good to be honest... I think I might be coming down with the same illness that got J.J. Abrams. "Flarentitus" |
